hi guys, I just bulit a little Shuttle XPC and when it's switched on there's no beeps and nothing comes on the monitor (the fan spins and the power light on the front comes on)
I got the case and motherboard as a package and have installed new memory (tried a different one too) a new celeron CPU and have tried it with and without a hard drive

double check and make sure the cpu and heatsink are seated correctly. You said different type of ram, can you give brand and spec? There is also the possibility that you might have cracked or damaged the core of the cpu when attaching the heatsink or even just a bad cpu.

wouldn't I at least get some beeping if thos things were wrong though?

the cpu and heatsink are both seated fine and there's no physical damage to the CPU that I can see

I've tried registered and unregistered PC2700 333mhz DDR RAM (as recommended by the motherboard manufacturers) one was Kingston, the other unamed

Make sure that whatever RAM you have must have the same speed. Otherwise, you are just putting a dog and cat in one cage.

i haven't put both in at the same time, just tried 2 different ones to rule out the RAM

Make sure the motherboard isn't contacting any part of the case its not supposed to be and shorting out. Other than that, if the video is onboard with the motherboard, about the only thing left is a bad motherboard.

Motherboard is possible as nightheart said, so is the cpu. I experienced it first hand, where the problem was the cpu. I didnt get any beeps either, replaced the cpu and it worked, so its hard to say.

Yeah, i misread the first post and thought you had tried a different cpu, as well. So a bum CPU is possible, anyway, my revised 2 cents............
