Hi. I just build my first computer but I can't boot the computer without windowxp disk, when I try to restart the computer without the windows xp, it say on the black screen please insert a boot disk. The hd that I put on is not new but I format it and put a fresh copy of windows on. What can I do to make it boot without the winxp disk?
Also why my AMD Sempron 2400 only shows at 1000 ghz when it is 1.67 ?
Thanks in advance.

You'll need to set the CPU FSB to 166 for the Sempron to be recognized at its real speed.
Also, set the HD as 1 of the boot devices in the BIOS.

Thanks Van Nugent, I was able to boot my comp now, but I can't change the CPU FSB to 166 in the BIOS because this info is in bold letter and can't access them. Is there any other way? Thanks.

In most BIOSes, you just highlight the number then press <Enter> to choose another value. Also, try the Up/Down arrow keys or <Page Up>/<Page Down> keys to increase/decrease the value.

I tried that and nothing, even in my mobo user guide picture of the BIOS the letters are like that.

What's the mobo's make/model? You may need to update the BIOS.

My mobo is ASUS A7V400-MX. I will do that and see. Thanks.

You definitely need an updated BIOS m8, as I guess this is a VIA KM400A mobo. I just updated the BIOS on my Asus A7V600 a couple of weeks ago for Sempron supports. :)
Edited: Just check the Asus site and you can get the new BIOS 1003 HERE (http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A7V400-MX), which adds more new CPU supports.

Van Nugent, do I have to set the CPU frequency on the mobo? because I didn't do it before installing the mobo, because on the user guide says that the option to set the CPU core bus frequency multiple is available only on unlocked CPU's.if you are using locked CPU setting the switches does not produce any effect.
Is my CPU locked or unlocked?
I want to make sure of this before installing the new BIOS updates. Last night I made a movie with dvdshrink without deep analysis and only took 10 minutes, does my cpu is running at 1.67 ghz?
Thanks a lot for your help.

If you're using a mobile CPU or if the CPU was bought about 2 yrs ago, it may be unlocked. However, to be safe, just set the jumpers to 166.67MHz if you're using a 333MHz CPU.
To check the CPU freq, you can open Cotrol Panel/System and at the General tab, under Computer, it tells you the CPU type and speed. You can also download Everest Home (http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en) to have more details on your system.

Thanks Van Nugent, I set the jumpers to 166.67 MHz and it reads it ok :) .
Now I have another question. My ASUS mobo has an onboard video, I put a dvd movie (original) to try the video and it is not so good, it looks a VHS movie which is all used plus lines going from top to bottom on the screen, what should I do to fix this?
Or all onboard video mobo are the same? By the way I use powerdvd, tried Windowmedia player and it says that cannot play it.
Thanks.

On-boards are not the same. One chipset would provide much better video performance than the other. Also, if you have sufficient RAM, try to share at least 64MB to the video (128MB would be better, though).

Thanks Van. It is better now I shared the RAM at 64MB and it is better.
