Depends are the speakers powered? That's all you need if you want HiFi sound.

Well they would be the stadard kinda hi fi ones with wires, cud u put a plug head on the end to send out the sound or however it works?
EDIT Got an old hifi speaker here (Aiwa) 2 wires come from it, cudnt be simpler, hwo complex is a computer speaer, could u litterally cut the speaker cable and solder the different ones on

You'd have to have the amplifier to power the speakers, an RCA to 8mm plug connector should then be plugged into the back of the sound card, RCA end from amplifier to 8mm plug on sound card. Little tired so my typing probably isn't making sense. But the speakers need power, an amplifier can provide power, then connect. HTH

How many speakers could the amp hold? would u need only one cable into the sound card from the amp (would the an amp speaker surely the 'controller' would be the only thing required). I am using a 5.1 sound card atm for surround speakers but just not powerful enough and i think with propor speakers alot crisper at higher volumes,

Fisrt of all if you want 5.1 speakers then you'll need a 5.1 amp. It doesn't sound as if your sound card will be able to power the speakers by itself. Just because a speaker is rated at 60w doesn't mean it can generate it's own power. Just soldering the wires together won't be an acceptable solution. Does your soundcard have a digital audio out plug?

hwo can i see if it does
EDIT My speaker cables go into my sub which is connected to the pc, the sub is powered through plug - powering speakers, will this make it ok?

well the subwoofer is powering the speakers so it just might work.

I have a set of KOSS computer speakers, which are powered, and plug into the sound card which itself is nothing special. The Koss speakers, being powered, have a built in amplifier. I opened the case up where the amplifier is housed and connected 2 more speakers, after the amplifier, that live on my patio so I could play my MP3s outside. Works just fine. But to add more speakers, you need to have amplification, not just the signal from the sound card.
Of course, I was prepared to buy a new speaker set if the extra speakers overloaded the amplifier!
If your speaker set is powered, and has controls (base, treble, volume, etc) then it should work for you.
