I'm currently using internet from my college. Obviously a lot of stuff is blocked and I'm jhaving trouble getting torrents running at full speeds because of blocked ports.
Now my question is, does anyone know any common ports that are normally left open? Or any way to find out any open ports so I can get my bit torrent to run at full speeds?

this very much depends on how the network is set up.
if the admins have simply closed ports then that is ok, however if they are using decent port monitoring software that monitors the headers of packets you are as stuffed as a stuffed thing.
the most common port i would try is 3128 or 8080 as these are http ports that are usually left open but not necessarily used as port 80 is the default on most gateways.

Stuffed as in I'll get caught or stuffed as in it wont work?
Which port will normally have more traffic going through it do you think? 3128/8080 or 80?
Thanks

stuffed as in on a good admin'd network you haven't got a chance of getting around it or of not getting caught, whatever some little sad script kiddie tells ya.
80 is standard http, then 8080, 3128 is http or https (can't remember) and is often open but not much used.
