is this just now, as there seems to be a big problem with MSN/hotmail at the mo,
or just in general?
Hi Tierra
Thanks for responding. It is happening all the time. When I first boot up it auto runs in the background and when I right click to exit it wont let me. I have tried deselecting in msconfig with no result.

not too sure about windows messenger but is there a setting within it, like on MSN, to automatically run when windows boots.

I cannot exit from messenger, it tells me that something else is using it and cannot exit even though nothing is. Could someone help me with this ? This sounds like spyware or a trojan, try a program called adaware to see if it can clean that up for you. Google search adaware and you'll find it.

to stop messenger loading at boot up, click tools / options / preferences and untick "run this program when windows starts"

or u can go to :start/run/TYPE IN msconfig/GO TO startup TAB/TAKE OUT THE CHECKS ON msmsgs AND ANY OTHER msmsg: Now hit apply, it will ask u to reboot, now every time u reboot msn wont boot with your computer anymore.

or if u want to remove it completely click start...then select run...then copy and paste this in the "open" field
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
then hit ok. restart ur computer..and it'll be gone
