got the W32.Netsky.c@mm virus the other day.
As usual, Norton just sticks it in quarantine, them after updating definitions, says it cant remove it.
Downloaded the removal tool from here:http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.netsky@mm.removal.tool.html
& it says i havent got it, even though I can see about 5 of them now in quarantine!!!!
BTW: win98se OS
any ideas????

Yup. Once its in Q area there is no tool available which will remove the Q entry. You need to remove it manually. :invsible:
One more thing... files are in Q doesn’t mean that you are infected. :t_up:

The new email could be infected and in turn quarantined by Norton as it picks them up.
The porn popups appear to be unrelated.
This could be coming from Windows Messenger. What kind of Internet connection do you have?
When do the popups appear?

56k ntl,
the pop ups are when I open a new web page (not every time, but about 1 in 5). Its always the same small yellow box about porn.
got another 2 virus this morning that have quarantined. At this rate my Q will be full in a week lol

Hey gooty, I know you must have done this but still... have you checked your system for Spywares/ Trojans/ Adwares, etc.?
If you are getting the daily-Virus through a particular address, try blocking it for a time being.

I agree with MM, need to scan for all of the above in relation to the porn. As for Netsky, it does sound like NAV is Q'ing them and they are being sent to you by someone else. If you are using OE disable active scripting.

scanned with a up-to-date virus definition & nothing.
as regards active scripting, how do i do that????

To scan for spyware you need to use something like Spybot :- http://www.safer-networking.org/ or AdAware :- http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ which are both FREE, make sure you update definitions first before you scan. Your A/V software will not find the stuff the above will. ;)

spybot found loads of stuff to remove, but still getting these virus' daily in my e-mails.
Norton just keeps quarantining them.
removed MSN & still getting them.
anyone help me here????? :-(
If your getting e-mails with atachments just don't open them. Infected zombie machines might be sending them. Look at the headers and contact the ISP.

Might be worth considering a program like Mailwasher.
This allows you to view emails on your mailserver and decide which ones to block/delete, before downloading to your PC. It has a handy blacklist feature and has access to known SPAM databases, which it checks for you.
Ther's a free version or the Pro version for about £37 ... good value.

Outlook 2003 does a reasonable job of filtering junk mail into a junk folder.
