I'm new to XP, so I would really appreciate some help.
I have just installed some XP Security Updates, and now I am having problems with Pictures on the Internet! The e-bay pages for instance are now devoid of any pictures, and when I go to Coverkingdom to look for a Picture all I end up with is a small red cross (x) on a blank screen!
I don't know if it is a coincidence or not, but my Outlook Express has also stopped working!!
It's probably related to some sort of XP security setting, but I cannot find it!
Any tips for an XP newbie would be appreciated.

If you're not running sp1 or 2, it's probably an issue with not having java installed. You can download Sun Java J2SE v 1.4.2_05 JRE HERE (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html). I doubt that your Outlook Express problem is related, however you never can tell.

Also ... in Internet Explorer, try going to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced ... scroll down to Multimedia and make sure there is a tick in the "Show Pictures" box.
If not click the box & apply.

Also clear your temp internet files. Most of the times this is the main reason for red cross.

I have JAVA installed, and everything was running OK before the Security Updates. I am using my ME PC at the moment, but I'll log on later with the XP PC and give the suggestions a try. Thanks.

sounds like the security updates have changed you settings in IE, possibly activex downloads, and this has caused the problem.

You can bet your *** its related to service pack 2 it blocks java well some of it by default so you will need to enable it in tools>internet options> security settings if your using a firewall like zone alarm make sure you disable xps that is enabled too by sp2 you might want to disable the security center also as it absoloutly useless.

Thanks for the suggestions, but nothing seemed to work, and it was worse than I first thought because I could also not access any 'Secure Webpages'!
I searched quite a number of sources without too much success in finding a solution!
However everything is now operating normally again after dumping IE!
I am now using Firefox and Zonealarm Pro 4, and everything is running perfectly. I don't know whether it was the Firefox or Zonealarm installation which returned things back to normal, but either way I will be sticking with these two products.

Just getting off topic slightly, my Norton Password Manager doesn't seem to work with Firefox, does anyone know how to change it from IE to Firefox? I have checked the options but cannot find a 'Browser Preference' setting.

Disregard the last question, it looks like Password manager will only work with IE and AOL!:uhwell:
