Firstly is the Hd Locked? Can you boot to the dash ok with the chip off
There's this new stuff (started by smartxxx) relating to the fact that even backups are "phoning home" to M$ with hd info which smartxxx reckon they can stop- dunno how though- but as yet no one was has been getting banned.
If you have the live 2.0 version of m$ dash, i think booting to it while in chipped mode will also get you banned- e.g. if you go to the m$ dash from your modded dash- to change the clock/access game-saves etc.
The executer team also claim that the x24981 chip will prevent accidental connection to live from a backup (e.g. when someone selects Live realted options in the game menu on a back up)- although not sure how proven this is either
as for the alternatives- at the moment xbconnect has the more users (i think) but xlink or Kai is the one that is going to be integrated into several dash boards and on their site (http://www.xboxlink.co.uk/) they mention gamecube and ps2 support so whether that relates to cross platform multiplayer i have no idea.
xbox scene (http://xbox-scene.com/tools/tools.php?page=tunnel) has a current list of the available tunneling tools but i think the two I mentioned are the leaders.
If i understand correctly Kai will be the first one not to need the PC.
