If its a DVD spec mpeg then you could author it using a dvd authoring software then running the created vobs through one of the many one click shrink programs such as DVD Shrink to reduce the size to fit on a DVDR.

Just outta interest. is the mpeg sourced from a dvd? If so, what software did you use to do this?
thanks alot,
Craig :)
M2VRequant (http://www.mrbass.org/M2VRequant.rar) If you want to transcode it (lower quality but faster)
or use CCE / TMPGEnc if you want to reencode it (much better quality, but slower)

You might want to try ReJig instead of M2V requant. It uses the same transcode engine but has built in demultiplexinng, etc. code plus a nice user interface.
As said you could author and then transcode or transcode/re-encode then author. The choice is yours.
Could also try Nic's new QuEnc for re-encoding which uses ffmpeg's libavcodec for encoding.
Yeah, good point Celtic, I'd forgotten that ReJig (http://www.rejig.org) didn't just do dvds :)
