I recently found I coulnt play some downloaded movies because I needed the Divx codec. So, I downloaded and installed it.

I can play the video files fine now...HOWEVER:

I get a little Divx logo come up on my videos in the bottom right, I'd imagine that I could turn this off in the 'Divx option configuation', but it always says I have another instance running so I cannot access the config?

Also, files that are XVID are now showing the Divx logo in the bottom right when played/converted...does this mean my XVIDs are being decoded in DIVX? Is this bad?

Thanks.

DivX and XviD are both ASP MPEG4 codecs and they can both decode each other. Well excluding DivX3 which is not MPEG4 compliant, so XviD can't decode it.

Try disabling the logo whilst you don't have a file playing. Failing that you can probably just manually set the registry key. You can also disable support for generic MPEG4 and it will no longer decode XviD.

Nero, 3ivX and ffdshow can all also decode DivX/XviD.
