Xbox - Ticking sound?

I've got an old xbox with the enigmah chip. When I turn it on now it seems to have this weird ticking/clicking noise. Anyone know what it is?

I am willing to bet it is your hard drive. Have you got a larger than stock drive in your system?

Depends on the ticking sound, if it's at intervals say every 30-45 seconds then I'd say it's your hard drive. If it's a buzz then a tick I would say it's the power supply.

bigsteel - just the stock hard drive mate

pepsik - it's really annoying because it only ticks sometimes. just turned it on now a couple of times and it didn't tick at all. there's no buzz, it's more of a consistant tick every half second for about 5-15 seconds and then stops.


come to look at it, could it be something sucked up into the fan?
