hi peeps need a bit of advise... just bought my son a new xbox as his old one was an early one with a cheap mod chip in it and was starting to have trouble reading disks so rather than get a new drive for the price of a new xbox decided it was time for a new one... he doesnt use live so what would be the best option to go for? just wants to be able to put a disk in and play away..also anyone around the Hull east/west yorks area able to do the mod for me would be able to bring it to you ..
thanks in advance

If you don't want LIVE, go for a softmod. ldots UDE2 installer for all new xboxs.

Since you cant use live with a backup at all no matter if you have a chip or softmod its not that big of a problem and you can unistall the ldots in 2 mins and play your xbox live game and then reinstall in about 2 mins after you finish to go back to playing your backups (as long as you have an exploitable game handy :) )
There are also non xbox live alternatives such as xboxconnect and xlink kai
Only drawback I really see is that you have to use a pc to upgrade your HD
which is not that bad but if you flash the bios it works just like upgrading a HD with a chip
