how lively is xbconnect, is it a good replacement for xbox live or is it better to buy originals of online games to play on xbox live?
not sure m8 i haven't got round to setting up my xbox on xbconnect yet :( i'm sure somebody on here is bound to have, but guessing by how many users it has i'm sure it's pretty good

xbconnect and xlink are both ok although laggy compared to Live, and nowhere near as many users

Hmm, we need someone to post a quickie on how to set up on that Kai or any other free service. I know I'm getting a wireless router soon and already have the wireless adapter for my Xbox so I know I'd like to try this out before getting Xbox Live for Halo 2. :)

i'll have a bash once this POS thesis gets submitted at the end of the month- but if any of the users can do it then that's probably better- not actually ever got round to playing any of the guys online- they're never online when i am :(

is xbox live free as long as you use your PCs internet connection, i mean theres no subscribtion costs or anything right?

Xbox Live is not free. You pay a yearly subscription fee to use it. The cost per year depends on what country you're in.
Almost got my XBConnect (which is free) setup. Look for LiquidMercury soon. :D

Hmm, I'm doing something wrong because every game I try and join it says Failed to join System Link everytime.
Could it be my firewall not allowing the link up? If so, I'm running ZA so how would I go about allowing my Xbox to connect through my pc? Running a Linksys wireless router and adaptor and only have one port being used. Is it also possible I have to open that port too? How would I go about doing that? TIA.

You don't have to forward any ports unless you want to host. Which isn't a good idea on a wireless connection anyways.
Did you go to the settings in xbc and did it say it found your xbox?

Ya did all that. I'm using XLink Kai right now but on either it does that unless I shut my ZA off (which I don't want to do), so that tells me it's a firewall issue. I've gone into ZA and allowed both programs full access but still no go with ZA turned on.

ZA doesn't work on kai, but if your using your linksys router to get the connection your still safe because that firewall is pretty stable. ZA is the only firewall that cannot be configured to work on kai, I think xbc also, but don't quote me on xbc.

The Linksys router has it's own firewall? Didn't know that. Hmm...still phucking laggy though...guess that's wireless for ya. :bawling: Thanks for the info. though bub. :t_up:

don't allow routers have built in firewalls? much safer than software firewalls i thought??? they better be cos i don't run any sofware ones:uhwell:

hmmm.... they do but i'd still run a software firewall
a hard ware firewall will allow ports to be forwarded but can't control what apps have access to that port- a software firewall can
^^^ indeed, maybe i should start running one again
