i just brought a brand new ps2 of some geezer from bst, it had a matrix inifinty chip in it. i'm new to all this, but i have a question about it all.

1. When you want to change games, is it normal for the first time you try and load up, it won't work? i have to reset it, and then it goes past the playstation 2 screen but then stays blank, if i then complety turn of the ps2 and try again 95% of the time it works.
IT seems that everytime i want ot change games, i have to do this?

is this normal? when everyone else boots up their cds, do they also boot first time?

cheers!

I have a Magic chip in my ps2 so i'm not sure about the matrix, but my chip does the same thing.

Keep in mind CD games usually give more trouble than DVD games.

You can try using different brands, some tend to work better than others. But I can't tell you which one, cause a good one for me might not be good for you, its very specific like that.

If you feel its really bad then have the lens cleaned. A friend's ps2 was really bad with booting up, so I cleaned out his lens and now it works fine. It still has some problems, like you said probably around 90-95 %, but its much better than before.

I'm know exactly how the matrix infinity chip works but I would definitely say that something is amiss if you need a fresh power-up each time you switch out games.

If it's a v9+ PS2, it is particularly common to have problems with CDs. I use Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs and they usually load (usually) but the PS2 screams. Finally I just gave up on CDs.

Yes, check your backups... Use only top notch brands, Verbatim and Ritek, etc. You may also be experiencing laser problems, if you know how to clean it with a Q-tip and alcohol, it might be worth a shot. The Matrix chip should definitely NOT be doing what you are explaining. Could also be a problem with the wiring, the Y point is for clocking and needs to be run on a thicker wire than the other points. Power and ground must also be thicker. All of these things could cause the problem you are having...
