Is it always nessesary to flash the bios when upgrading the processor? I currently run a xp1800 amd and was thinking about upgrading to a xp3200 with the same socket set. If someone has done this swap can you offer any advice or tips in the transition? thanks for your help in advance.

It all depends on what your motherboard can handle. Check the manufacturers website and find out if your current motherboard can handle the upgrade.

If you are going for a 3200 you may as well get the full advantage and go gor dual channel memory, as it will only be as fast as the weakest link.

Or if you can not find it on Manufacturer's web site then download SiS Soft Sandra from http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/sandra and test your system with it. Most probably it will answer all you problem/ questions.

You only need to flash the bios if your current bios does not support the CPU that you are going to upgrade to. Asuming thats what is added in the bios update by your mobo manufacturer.

If thats the case, make sure you flash it before the upgrade.
