Just installed a new HDD and did a fresh installation of XP. Two strange stings happen over and over:

First of all, I´m terrorised by a message from Norton Antivirus it has found W32.HLLW.Gaobot, but it can´t be fixed. I downloaded the fixtool from Symantec.com, but that tells me Gaobot was not found on my system. What the….?

It seems to have something to do with a file in c:\windows\system32\msie.exe that is the bloody internet explorer isn’t it? (maybe I have upset XP since I use Mozilla instead …. LOL…)

Second, for some unexplainable reason 4 files appear on my C:\ drive over and over again, even after deleting them:

Syss.txt

Trofkz.reg

x.bat

xkf (no extension)

What could this be? Installed the latest update ofAdaware, so I can’t imagine it is spyware of something

x.bat is part of NetPumper download manager ... see here :
http://www.kephyr.com/filedb/index.php?viewtopic=x.bat this is classified as Adware

Syss.txt is often produced by MS32CFG.EXE . If you have that on your system, then you have the WORM_RBOT.HO see here : http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/security_info/ve_detail.php?Vname=WORM_RBOT.HO

the best thing to do is Insert the windows XP disk restart the computer and then follow the setup this should completely clear your hard drive and install a fresh copy. if the screen says you have a parition delete that old partion (which is your curent copy of windows) then install a new copy of windows

holy cr@p, i need my bifocals to read the first post. btw, i'd only do a fresh install as a last resort. if it can be fixed otherwise, thats like curing a headache by cutting off your head. it can be overkill.
