When connecting to my Tiscali ADSL broadband, it often takes many attempts. Always get error messages like:

'server did not assign address'
'remote computer did not respond'
etc etc.....

Tiscali helpline is constantly engaged , so no help there...

anyone got any ideas? Cheers

server did not assign address could mean you have a static ip address specified but unlikely.

to be honest the only idea i have with those errors is keep trying the helpline, maybe they have a problem seeing as it is always engaged.

My advice is to change ISP, I first saw that problem about 9 months ago, it took me a month to move our customer over to another ISP and its been heaven since for them, in my experience, Tiscali is over selling their connection and this caused no end of problems for their customers.

yes thats correct.usually too many people trying to access one of your isp's servers.some of the b\b isp's are getting as bad as the old dial up connections.especially the cheaper ones.

I have been with Tiscali for quite a while and have never had a problem connecting up problem. The only think that happens to mine is sometimes the connection drops, this is noramlly when the phone rings, but not every time :(

if it disconnects when the phone rings, there is normally somrthing wrong with the set up i.e. with the filters etc and perhaps some extension wires.
