with a backup copy i have a cd key but when i go on line it says the cd key
is already being used what can i do.(yes i know go buy it.) but anythink else...

Backup should be fine as long as you are using your original CD key. If you don't have a CD key, then what you have is a pirated copy, not a backup and we can't help you.
