Hi there,

I fitted a new tray (as the old one broke via the knife trick) and the flip top lid onto my PS2 today.

I thought I had ruined my PS2 when no lights came on when I switched the power to my PS2 on and none of the buttons worked.I thought I needed a new ribbon but then on closer inspection I realised it had come loose and refitted it. The PS2 began working again and I was able to complete the installation of the flip top lid and was delighted that I had finished it and I did not need to purchase a new ribbon.

HOWEVER, I plugged the PS2 into the television and powered it up with a DVD swap magic disc and now it does not go past the main menu (with browser or configuration options).

I am concerned that the ribbon was the least of my worries and I have made a big cock up and ruined the PS2?

I tried to inspect why it does not read any of the discs as it was working perfectly yesterday when I used the knife swap.

If I lift the lid, and boot up the disc leaving the lid open to see whats happening, the disc moves a bit, about a cm, and then the laser attempts to read it.

Should the disc be spinning or would it not do this since the lid is up? Or does it only start spinning once it identifies a disc?

What could be the problem here? Is it something to do with the new tray I put in (which ejects just fine) or have I ruined my PS2?

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks.

does it play original games?

when using swap magic you boot up the SM disc wait till it says "insert disc" and then filp-top the backup into the PS2 and close then and press X

When I say nothing boots up, I mean nothing as in originals too.

I know how to use swap magic, I have been using it for ages with the knife trick.

The laser in the tray that you put in is bad, or you damaged those ribbon cables as well during install...
