Windows file opening error

When I open a folder from my computer (win XP), it now opens a new window for each folder I click on.
I think it's something to do with the Tools, Folder Options, File Types selection, but am not sure which.
I have the option in tools, general to open the window in the same window and not a new one, so am not sure why this is happening.

any help would be great, fed up with all these windows cluttering up the place!!

in your browser--->tools--->folde options-->general 3rd row down browse folders select "open each folder in the same window"

having checked the option that you have then go into the View tab, tick into "remember each folders view settings" and then click on "apply to all folders".

tried both and no joy. Tried re-setting all folder to default and still the same.
any more ideas perhaps?
