Actually it should be in the MPEG4 forum. DivX = MPEG4. Moving it there now.

What container were you planning on storing the DivX in? How about audio compression?

Not a clue mate. This is the 1st time i have ripped anything from a dvd onto my hard drive. My wife wants to send her pal in the US a copy of some dvd extras that hes pal doesn't have on the US version. I have ripped the extras onto my hard drive using Smart ripper and it tells me the file is a VOB file, 243meg in size. I was told that to mail it i would be better converting it to div-x and that's where i am stuck now.

All i want to do is get to the easiest filr type and size for mailing or sending over MSN.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Ian.

Well best size for audio would be vorbis or he aac. Most compatible container would be AVI as windows comes with a splitter. I know AVIMux GUI can mux aac into AVI, not sure about he aac though.

You might want to check out Dr DivX, should do what you want although I to be honest I haven't used DivX in ages. XviD is just that much better.

For really low bitrates though RV9/10 or VP6.2 are pretty good.

The easiest way is gordian knot. Or, the absolutly easiest way (brain free, 2 clicks) get autogk.
