Hi guys, some completely non computer related advice.

I'm thinking of transferring my old man's clapped out Nissan Micra (E Reg  ), to my name so that i can build up a couple of years no claims on the cheap before getting a decent car.

Any of you guys recommend any good insurance compaines other than the ones you see on the television? Direct line who are my old man's insurer, have said they would charge me ~£360 Thirdparty Fire & Theft with one year's no claims to start with (because they know my current driving history- i've been a named driver on the car for the last 7 years- but always too expensive for me to switch till the rest of the family passed their tests as this was the designated "learner car" )

anyway went to Tesco and Admiral and they both quoted similar but slightly cheaper for (~£350 ball park) but starting with no noclaims.

From a hassle point of view i guess £10 doesn't warrant the extra headache of transfering companies, just wanted to know if there are any others i should give a try first.

I'm about to turn 26, registered address is a leafy suburb in southwest london, and its even got garage/driveway parking- i was kind of expecting to pay considerably less- i don't evn know if the car is worth £360

any help/advice apreciated

i know you asked for non-comercially advertised but norwich union direct have been very good for my friends who are young and/or have had driving convictions.

ave you taken your pass+ ?? this knocked my m8s insurance down £1100 on a fully comp nissan primera (W reg) so that is worth doing as in a year you could save the price of the course

sorry Lazza- should have been able to work that out :insane:

Thanks Steve, i'll give them a call/check their internet out.

My Old man called them and they said 360, I then went to the site and it came up to £320 with 1 years no claims, then went back to see how much the noclaims affected it came out to £290 with no noclaims

he's now got back to directline and they've said i can get it for £290 with 1 year included- this is so wierd.

I've been contemplating taking the advanced test- just waiting till i have have some free time- definitely will be considering it nearer the time when i buy a nice shiny new car myself- at the moment being a student the micra is fine- nobody wants to steal it and i can do the repairs my self with a hammer, a flathead scredriver and an adjustable wrench

Try esure.co.uk - They only do fully comp I think, daft as it seems, it's sometimes cheaper. They have an online quoting system so give em a try.

not that i like the Elephant advert, but for me, their insurance has been so cheap, and they have a 10month accelerator, where you pay up front for 10 months and get a year added to your no-claims.

If you haven't already sorted it, try :

http://www.quotes-endsleigh.co.uk/insurance/MotorQuickQuote/MotorQuickQuote.asp?

I know a few young drivers, who got a good deal here.

It's worth ringing them too, rather than accept web quote.

As above Pass + will make a big difference .... well worth the investment.
When my m8 got his, they told him 2 bits of info that will keep the cost down more :

1. Low annual mileage
2. Garaged overnight

Head over to www.confused.com (http://www.confused.com) and they get quotes from loads of insurers with one set of details.

Try the same at autotrader.co.uk's similar service and they may find one cheaper than confused..

Another vote for elephant here, the 10 months thing is a good idea for someone with 0 no claims discount and elephant did it at the lowest rate for me.

Though I agree, their ads are crap :)
