i`m using the sony drx510ul external burner.
the disks i got from supermediastore.com are ridata branded sold in 25 pack 4x speed
the disks from meritline are shiney sold in 25 pack meritline stock # 102-225-025
both of these disks have the same problems burning at 4x speed and i tried them in 5 different burners and programs so for sure it`s the media.

NO. All I use is ritek media and never had a problem. Can you tell us what burning programs your using (all of them). Also include a log from a program. Before I would blame the media I would have all the facts. Also try a program like DVD Identifier (http://dvdplusid.cdfreaks.com/) to make sure they are ritek. But what I have found and seen when it comes to ritek media the problem isn't the media.

dvd decrypter it has to be the media I used 5 different burners meaning 5 different computers same results I use some blanks from my old stock they all burn 4x the slowest being 3.4x how can it be the pc and not the media my friends burners burn at the same speed and we all have different systems.

There's plenty of reject Ritek media around at the moment, so it could well be the discs.

Nope. If you go to cd-rw.org there is a long discussion including British distributors' comments which confirm that there are Ritek media being sold through the back door by Taiwanese resellers, which are being bought up by e-net UK and other companies I'm sure.

I couldn't find the comments, do you have a Link?
I only use 'RITEK' brand discs, there are Dealers around who will try to sell any old garbage as RITEK, so I don't take the chance.

This is a huge long thread, but after about page 3 of 11(!) it goes into detail about the "landscape" reject Ritek media, overprinting, e-net practices (and a lot of in-fighting and bi.tching that you'd be best advised to ignore lol).

You are aware that Meritline and Supermediastore are the same company, right? With that in mind, read this quote from the Better Business Bureau report on Meritline:

Complaintants allege difficulty obtaining refunds for returned merchandise and delays in delivery. Some complainants allege rebates are not honored and dissatisfaction with ordered products that are defective or did not work. Others allege difficulty reaching company personnel to obtain information on order status, cancellation procedures, technical support, or refund inquires. A few complainants allege, dissatisfaction with having to pay shipping costs or restocking fees to return products.

or how about this quite from another site?

A note about counterfeit Maxell Media: ... These are usually sold as “Maxell Unbranded” or “Maxell OEM,” and are sold at the shadier discount computer stores on the web (meritline.com was the main culprit, but they seem to have removed them from their store). Maxell is aware of this and are cracking down, so hopefully this will go away, but to be safe you should only buy from reputable dealers

and this from Maxell to support it:

Thank you for contacting Maxell Technical Support. We have analyzed
samples of "Unbranded Maxell DVD-R" being sold by Meritline.com in our
labs and the media we tested was not a "genuine Maxell product". Maxell
does not sell any "Unbranded DVD-R" product to consumers in the United
States at this time. We do sell Printable Surface media which does not
have a label but is clearly marked in packaging as Maxell product.

We appreciate your concern as we are also very concerned about the
Maxell name and the quality we represent.

I will indeed keep your correspondence on file and thank you very much
for the offer.

Sincerely,

Larry Cory

I would be very hesitant to buy anything from Meritline. You increase the liklihood of getting counterfeit media tenfold.

Yes, I've heard about this as well. Seems Meritline are the US's equivalent to e-net/Datasafe :(

I buy Ritek from meritline (http://www.meritline.com/) and shop4tech (http://www.shop4tech.com/) and never had a problem, I go with witch ever has the better price. Try places like dealuniversity.com or techbargains.com to find the best price.

thanks guys for the info on meritline so what`s a good place to shop for ritek? In the US, the two best IMHO are:

www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com)
www.rima.com (http://www.rima.com)

Newegg has an unquestionable reputation and great prices and Rima also has decent prices and I have never had an issue with them (nor have many others). *EDIT* BTW that does make sense about the Ritek problem. The majority of the complaints on them definitely seem to be coming from the UK. Also on a different subject, isn't allmediaoutlet also tied in with Supermediastore/Meritline?

I couldn't remember the 3rd name Meritline went under but I do believe that is it Jesterrace. I'm with you on NewEgg and Rima is pretty good as well. I did have an issue with Rima once where some idiot in the warehouse packed my DVD-Rs on top of the peanuts instead of between them, which resulted in about a dozen discs with cracked hubs but unless it happens again, I'm willing to chalk it up to an isolated incident.

* EDIT: How about a couple more names for that shady company known as Meritline?

http://www.dvd-rwmedia.com is ALSO the same company.
aka LinkYo Corp
aka CompTree Inc.

I'm sure the list probably goes on and on.

As mentioned already, it's probably down to a few shady suppliers.

I have used hundreds of Ridatas at 4 x and have never had a problem.
I always buy from SVP in the UK.

Bear in mind that SVP is an e-net supplier. Having said that, he is an honest bloke in the main and does at least have some non-e-net stuff for sale as well. The Ridata discs being one example.

Wouldn't recommend the Ridiscs though as these are not a Ritek brand (e-net again) and have been known to be variable.
