Every so often, Aldi offer a Medion PC which is an extremely high spec. for a more than affordable price.

I heard that Toys R Us stock similar PCs.

I have seen this one:

http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/TruHome/TruComputers/TruComputersDesktop/824577?ref=824488

What are your opinions of it?

Is it similar to the Medion ones Aldi stocks?

Who are Cybermaxx?

If you were going to buy a ready made PC would you go for it, or avoid it?

(I do not have the time to get someone to build a personal one, its pretty urgent.)

Or would you opt for something like this - Hewlett Packard:

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/

QUICK CODE: 369361

(i.e. Better build quality...)

PC World and better build quality in the same sentence, scary thought :)

Peronsally I would say if you can, it is always cheaper to build a PC yourself, as you can choose from all the different options specifically rather than being tied down to specific components.

In general though, if you are to buy a PC, the PC's bought from such places as you mentioned will have much cheaper components such as the mobo, which at the end of the day is the core component for linking everything together.

If you want to buy a PC I would advise sticking to a PC specialist, and that does not include PC World, like www.aria.co.uk (http://www.aria.co.uk) or maybe www.novatech.co.uk (http://www.novatech.co.uk) . These will be be true better buiild quality :)

The Aldi ones do have the advantage that they have an unconditional warrantly on them, therefore any probs you can usually return it for a refund or replacement.
Prices are not bad, but as Tierra said, there are other builders who offer quality.
Have a look for Gold Disk over at bst-secure, he builds systems to spec and is a good guy for advice as well.

gold disk no longer builds pcs he sold YPS to boss1986

The Cybermaxx looks good and i dont think you could build that for £999, there was a review on some power pcs in PCW mag last mounth i will dig it out for you and have a look later

also the pcworld site has timedout so provide the quick find code so we can see it :)

One last thing, i think that you can still get the last aldi pc if you go in and ask them and they deliver it if they have any left in stock at medion

Ok, i had a look in the PCW article but their true power PC's i.e £2000 each so i think thats a bit out of your budget

The MAtrix64 FX max from http://www.meshcomputers.com (http://www.meshcomputers.com/) on editors choice and the Aries performance 9800 and poweroid 3303 got highly recomended

I had a look at the HP one you posted and it seems ok, as does the medion one

Medion/Cybermaxx (i think tis the same company) are very good IMO, they are german made which says it all really, so dont thing that HP has better build qualty as it dosent

One thing that stands out with both of them is thre videocard, both of them use the fx5200 which isnt the best card on the market(i think its on par with the 9600 xt?), but the medion has 256ddr where HP has 128

SO if i was going to choose one it would be the medion as it has a lot of extras like TV and a radi tuner, or maby a custom built AMD 64 from mesh

HTH

My next door neighbour bought one of the PCs from ALDI and it is a beast, he didnt have any problems with it except that he can't mod his pc without breaking the guarantee which is standard procedure anyway, the problems also lies in the fact he can't even go to places like PCWORLD who will still validate warranties as long as they fit the upgrades.

Personally I have always been a firm believer in build my own PC, I generally buy a new one every year depending on budget and I'm due a change now ;)
