I know there have been many topics on dying lasers in the past, so I know the symptoms somewhat. I have a version 9 PS2 that i bought around Christmas and i got it chipped with a Magic V chip. lately it seems to be loading slower and slower and then just today i found that many of my games that worked in the past no longer work, or they at least load but won't get past the main menu. My question is, is there any way to get a new laser and install it without sending the PS2 to Sony (because they obviously won't give a **** about a moded system).

Thanks in advance.

Culd be:
Dirty disks.

Dirty laser.

Or your media is cheap & deleted data.

I know the disks aren't dirty, and i use Ritek GO4 media so i doubt its the media. the laser could be dirty though. what is the best way to clean a laser?

I just tried my PS2 again and i checked to see if NHL 2004 would load (because it wasn't earlier) and i was able to load it. So then i played Spiderman 2 for about a half hour, then the game started glitching and it just froze. non of my other games seemed to work either, even NHL 2004 which i had working no less then 30 min prior. some of the games would display the playstation 2 logo and then go to the golden screen that displays the memory card and game disk icons. is this a sign of a dieing laser or just a dirty one? I havn't been rough on my laser, i only play DVD games on it and as i said before i have only had the system for about 6 months.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. and if infact my laser is dieing, what is the best option, trying to sell my system to spend another $350 Cdn on a new one or trying to find someone to install a new laser?

Its summer, sounds like your ps2 got too hot. Don't put it on the carpet or in an entertainment center.

i have the same problem, some dvdr games don't load, they just go straight to the memory card browser. Does this mean the laser is dying?

it reads everything except 2/3 of my dvdr games that use to work w/ it.

Try using the best media you can find.

might it be the laser that needs to be replaced or just needs a cleaning?

Clean it first, clean your disks too.
