Just got connected today :)
Checked the speed and it says 306 kilobits per second.
I should have a 512k connection, is this running right??????????
Sorry to be such a numbskull but you should be used to my sh1t questions by now, lol.

Just occured to me how much of a stupid question that really was!!!!!!!!!
Obviously it's 306 out of 512, but is that normal? or extra slow.

what is it you are using and downloading?

ADSL speed is affected by how many ADSL users in your area are also downloading.

If you are downloaiding something could be that the site/ftp server/p2p is maxed out at 306kb/s, download speed is obviously limited to the lowest of the two parties

Go here > http://adslguide.org/tools/speedtest.asp and run the test (You will need Java installed).

Then post the figures it gives you.

Actually that's not too bad, not great, but not bad. I just got 371 and I'm on a 768 connection, however I'm not all that close to the telco. That's what I get for living out in the middle of nowhere. :(

ouch. I'd ask them to give you half price then for the 30K. ;) I know the feeling though. :/ When I was away at college (about 5 years ago now) I had cable inet with 300K-900K down (only 14K up). Being new to broadband at the time, I had no idea how good I had it. The only thing that makes me feel better is that the outstanding speed was probably only b/c cable broadband was very new there at the time and very few people in the area had it.

That's terrible .... If I were you I'd complain and get them out to test it.
