Ummm, I know this is probably a sore subject, but here goes:
I have been a member of CDRG since 1999 (maybe early 2000). I stop in occasionally whenever I have a question and to try to answer others questions too. However, I am in the military and very seldom get to visit the site due to this extended vacation in Iraq. I recently stopped in just to chat and began to see some wierd things going on. It didn't seem like the same forum at all. After looking around a little, I was directed to this site where I registered and am now a "new member" again. I searched this forum trying to figure out what was going on, but just noticed alot of arguing with the upper echelon of the 2 sites. I'm not trying to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, but I have 5 years invested into this/that (whichever) site, and have reccomended it to countless others whenever they needed help. It has been my goto place for all computer/xbox/game/networking/dreamcast/PSX knowledge and I would hate to see it go. So, if you may, will someone please tell me what has happened? (Preferably without flaming me!)

You can get your status updated in the problems/test area.

Well it's basically been a problem with the owner of CDRG (Charles Simmons) and his lack of time, care, acknowledgement of anyone that worked there over all these years. I personally never even spoke to the guy and not for the lack of trying.
He ran the board into the ground against the hard efforts of the Administrators and Moderators of CDRG. He's made CDRG a graveyard now and if you haven't already noticed, there's a lot of riff-raff floating about over there posting chaos. You and the members never saw this as it was behind closed doors, so to speak, and it was only until the end of April that the proverbial schitt hit the fan and spilled across all forums including the now defunct Member's Lounge which Charles is still afraid to put back in place, lol. Hoss along with the support of all staff you see here today helped to create DVDRG (at least this board's acronym reflects the modern era of technology, lol) where we could continue providing the best assistance available to anyone and everyone that so chooses to join.
There are still allegiances to the other board and we've seen old time members that were once great help simply turn to nothing more than hopeful wannabe Moderator replacements over there. We of course wish them all the very best in achieving that status. :)
I'm sure Lazza'll fill you in on the more intricate details if he chooses too. As in everyday life, we all have bumps in the road along the way. Some you can avoid others you can't and must do something about.
For the most part, all has gone on quite well with the transition and it's still very early as Hoss just put up this site since the beginning of March/04. I hope you find this site just as useful and stick around to watch it grow into an even more fantastic board than it is now in this short time of existance.

I think Merc pretty much covered all the bases with his post. I send everyone over here now because IMHO most of the people who provide the really helpful answers are over here now. That isn't to say there aren't some people over at CDROM-GUIDE making helpful posts but it is no longer the resourceful site that it used to be. I have seen a number of posts over there either go unanswered or the advice being given is well off the mark. I go over there from time to time to try and help some of these people out since I don't think it's fair that they should have to suffer do to the irresponsible actions of the site's owners. I try to move people over here as much as possible but it is kind of hard to do without looking like we are spamming the forums over there.

I love this soap opera!!
Seriously though I do visit CDRG but like you guys said, its not as helpful as DVDRG. Our of all the forums I do visit, none have the all round information that this site has. Basically the best of what use to be CDRG is now DVDRG, so get your status updated from the old board and you'll be set. The maturity level here (most of the time), and the pool of knowledge can't be found elsewhere.
