Please help me guys and gals,

After a few years of browsing tens of thousands of webpages, I have decided to take the plunge and actually try to create one myself. The problem is I have not got a clue where to start :(. Can anyone point me in the direction of any decent tutorials, websites, ebooks etc. which may be able to get me started at least. Also what software will I need. I have Ms Frontpage which came with office 2000 but is this the best/easyest to use for a complete novice like myself.

Any feedback would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Sign up at www.freewebs.com (http://www.freewebs.com) and they have a wizard that will make the site for you :)

Well worth it as you get to pick colours, content & pic etc...

Depends how serious you are and what sort of site you need.

If it's just a simple one and you want to dip your toe in (so to speak) have a look at Yahoo Geocities free service :

http://geocities.yahoo.com/ps/learn2/HowItWorks4_Free.html

Ther's plenty of help on there including a tour.

If you want something a little more advanced ....maybe Dreamweaver is a good proggy to consider. Plus you will need to register a Domain name and pay a hosting company.

Here is a beginner tutorial .. there are dozens found with google

I have found that Netscape Composer is a good, easy beginner page builder, and for all I know, Front Page could be just as easy.
If you want to tru Netscape, it comes bundles with the Netscape browser, up to Version 4.7
You have to install the whole browser. Just don't allow Netscape to become the default browser, and it will live ok on your computer without causing any trouble. The page builder part is caller Composer. Find it here ... V.4.7
http://wp.netscape.com/download/archive/client_archive47x.html

Here is a tutorial on how to use Composer.

Here's a grass roots starter for you M8, a couple of hours and you should understand the code, why its there, and how easily things can be made to look so difficult, you can build a full web site with nothing more than notepad

If you want your webpage to look good in all browsers I wouldn't use FP, it's not compatible with Netscape on certain things.

I agree but it is so easy to use and might be good for a beginners first web page, I'm old fashioned though and I like coding in HTML it provides the greatest flexibility. It isn't particularly difficult to learn but it does take a bit of time
