How to recalibrate the PS2 Lens without opening PS2

Haven't tried it myself since I don't need it.

How to recalibrate the PS2 Lens without opening PS2.

1.Turn on the PS2 without a disk in it & the tray open.

2.Push TRIANGLE button to get to check Version Number Info

3.Next screen, Highlight the Console #

4. Push TRIANGLE button for Options.

5. Next menu, turn DIAGNOSIS from OFF to ON.

6. Exit Menu

7. Put disk in tray, close tray, reset PS2.

Does it matter which modchip you have in your PS2?

I don't think so, this is the manf's tool to recalibrate.

Unfortunatly didn't work for me. My laser was out of wack cos i accidently turned the cog whilst fixing the CD tray. Before I recalibrated the laser manually, I tried this and didn't work. Had to open it up to fix it again.

But that does offer an explanation on what the Diagnosis option does.
