Can I use an ADSL modem router before I get broadband?
We get bb next month and I've already got my hardware, can I use it to connect my laptop and desktop for file sharing and dial-up sharing?
Will it work without an ADSL signal?
Cheers.

Yes the router will operate with adsl.

the router/internal LAN side of things will work fine before you get BB, as long as your network is set up correct.

with regards to dial up, I have no idea, but my inkling would be to say no. the reason for this is that with a modem/router the IP address assigned to the router is that of your ISP, and this becomes the gateway for both PC's to access the internet. With dialup one PC will be the gateway so you would have to install ICS on both PC's for it to work.

Yes you can get it work with dialup. You just need to set the pc with the dialup modem to enable ICS. This will set this pc to have a static IP & the other should be set to use DHCP (the default).
When you get your ADSL you will need to un-enable ICS & set this pc to use DHCP rather than a static IP.
