Not very helpful, but my suggestions as ever would be to remove AOL and join an ISP that doesn't try to take over your puter with its shite software :)
Possbily she could try removing the AOL software, remove it from her Norton list and then reinstall, this would at least ensure that the firewall was setup correctly to allow AOL to connect. Have a look here (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2002042908585736?OpenDocument&ExpandSection=2&Src=) for some of Nortons ideas on the subject. In particular check this link (http://service1.symantec.com/support/nip.nsf/docid/2001110214511536?Open&src=&docid=2002042908585736&nsf=nip.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=) which addresses AOL problems with NPF 2002, but is still valid.
I hope she isn't connecting without a firewall, if so her computer is likely to be a bag of worms.

As well as getting rid of AOL I would also suggest getting rid of Norton. Overpriced, and intrudes your system way too much. Windows built in firewall works quite well, and various free downloadable firewalls are just as good and less likely to cause problems
