why my dvd rom reads as cd drive (E)

I've had this happen occasionally, where Windows just calls the drive a CD-ROM rather than a DVD-ROM. Doesn't have any effect on the drive at all, just labelled wrongly.

Or are you actually having a problem because of this?

yes i having problems. whne i restart it saying some ide detecting and it goes to windows. i having problems reading. ALso my 107d is having problems ripping. lol. i jsut getting error on both drive. i jsut burn something and it worked fine.

i use dvd decypter and now it works. I cant get my dvd rom to rip, so i have to use my 107D. how do u make windows say it a dvd rom and not a cd rom.

All applications except the burnware would recognize the burners as CD drives. Windows Explorer is no exception.

explorer does recognise my dvdrom and dvdr107.

It recognizes all DVD and CD drives, m8, as long as the drivers are installed correctly either by you or the system.

I think he means as DVD drives. My XP identifies my DVD-rom and DVD-R drives as just that, complete with appropriate icon.

still not working. everytime i put something in my dvd rom it jsut haev a green lgiht flashing and it freeze up.
I have DVD-RW drive (d:)
cd drive (e:) = it suppose to be a dvd rom.
first time having this problem.

Whne i put the dvd in the dvd rom and i click on powerdvd it would not pop up. WHen i eject the dvd out, the power dvd pop up.

what can i do?
my 107D can rip and burn fine, but dvd-rom is crazy. My dvd rom is a MSI 16x. i had this for 2 month.

IT work now. IT read my dvd now. WHne i use dvd decypter it always give me an error. around 8% it jsut gives me error and keep trying to retried and it ripping at 0.0x. THis never happen before. I try to rip from my 107d it does the the samething. at 8% it jsut stuck there. i dont know what to do. i restart and samething.

update: i was ripping mr bean and at 79% it jsut slow down the speed ripping. i have no idea what going on.
how do u set the region?

right click on the drive.select properties.select hardware.select the drive and properties again.go to region and change to region 2.

I click on the drive and regional code then change. i choose 2. west europe, japan, south africa. Then it says "logical unit regional code is about to be changed. the number of allowed changes will be decreased by one. Note please ecwure you have a disc from the corresponding region in the drive before continuing." i press ok and it came up error "failed to change regional code"

i try on my dvd rom and it change the region, but still the same problem. At 8% the speed at 0.0x and it try to retired.
