Okay.. i want to buy some ritek media, but am confused at all the different kinds. I shop at meritline.com and i see:
Ritek 4X DVD-R G04 Silver Matte on Top $71.00 for 100 pack
Ritek 4X DVD-R G04 Silver Shiny on Top $68.00 for 100 pack
Ritek 4X DVD-R G04 Ridata Branded on Top $62.50 for 100 pack

What the hell is the difference? I would think that the "branded" riteks would be the most expensive, but they're the cheapest. I was reading in some forums that they're not that great, so i think i should stay away from them, but i don't know. What's the difference between RiData and Ritek?
I bought a 100 pack of silver top riteks from meritline about 2 weeks ago, and have burned them with no problems (at 2x though). I am going to buy a A07 and flash it with the 8x4all firmware, so i want to buy 4x riteks that will work at 8x. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!

It's all the same dye on the writing surface it's pretty much only a difference on top. I would stick to the silvertop or frosted top Riteks. BTW Ridata is just Ritek's brand. I wish they would quit doing stuff like that as all it does is confuse people.

BTW Ridata is just Ritek's brand.

This is not entirely true.
I recently purchased the RIDATA package listed in the link below from Newegg and the media code was listed as RICOHJPNR01. This is clearly RICOH media.

RIDATA 4X DVD+R 4.7G 50PK, Model DRD+47-4X-RDSM, OEM (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-132-325)

Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped the red and white RIDATA package and found 8X RICOH media. I was upset at first but further research revealed that RITEK quality is now inconsistent at best and that the RICOH media was actually preferred by some.

Further research confirmed that it was not my imagination as one of the coders from several CD/DVD web sites also posted on exactly what I experienced. Check out this post by code65536 in the thread.................

Note the second link under the quote......
RICOHJPNR01 or RITEKR02: (If you're lucky and get the Ricoh, that is very good; the Ritek is also decent media, but can also vary a lot in quality, so it's more of a gamble)

I was making reference to their DVD-R media and not DVD+R. ;) BTW I understood that Ricoh was made by Ritek. I guess I was mistaken though.
