I have just subscribed to Freeserve broadband and have 2 computers I would like to use it on but do not wish to network them up.

I have two external modems (one that came with the package and a dynamode from ebuyer) and would like to set up my phone line so i can go online with either PC at anytime. I realise I cannot go online with both at the same time without networking but how do i set up the phone lines with the splitters so either can go on seperately?

Here is a rough diagram of how the phone lines are set up:

This is the setup I have now, the line syncs on the second computer (Dynamode modem) but will not connect (The first one is fine :)). Also, when I connect on the first computer, if the second miro-filter is plugged in to the second extension (computer 2 - even if the computer is not plugged in), whenever i pick up the the phone, i get disconnected from the internet, but if i remove the micro-filter, I don't get disconnected but the phone at the end is all fuzzy with interference.

Does anyone know what is wrong? Any ideas how to setup the lines? do i have it set up right at the moment?

Thanks

Dwhitt

It is really simple, but a filter on everything unless except your two modems.

So I need to put a microfilter on every phone in the house? Does the extension from the computer 1 have to be through a microfilter and have a micro-filter on the end as well?

OK, I have it all setup now but I have one more problem, the 2nd computer can now connect to the internet but I cannot view any webpages even though it is connected.

The modem is "Conexant AccessRunner USB ADSL Interface" and I'm running windows 98.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

don't know how Freeserve works but maybe you need to add the DNS settings to the TCP/IP properties. Check your other PC or Freeserve's website to see if this information is available or needed.

Ok, I have tried the DNS settings (even though it says they are dynamic) and the proxy settings but still no luck.

Any ideas as this is really starting to get annoying!

first off, make sure you are being assigned an IP address. goto start, run, command and type winipcfg and see if it is assigning you a correct Ip address or not.

if you are then good....

also you said no web browsing but can you get any internet traffic, email etc?
next, open a command prompt and type ping 212.58.226.40 and see what results you get back

let us know

OK, thanks, I shall try that tonight (It's at my girlfriends house actually so I'll have to wait to go round).

Thanks a lot for your help so far though, I just hope this can be fixed!

OK, i tried the ping, but couldnt get a response, I also installed the freeserve disk and drivers for the modem that came with the package, same happens there - connects but no webpages or pings or traffic.

I really have to get this sorted as I am going to flip :p

I take it that it has to be some sort of network settings error, I even reinstalled Internet Explorer - I'm stumped

Cheers
