Hi all
I'm trying to fix my m8's Compaq desktop which is having some boot problems. I forgot to look at the model, but it has a Celeron 633/66 chip (so says the BIOS anyway).
There are three main problems.
1. Often the monitor does not come on at all, the vid card is seated ok and the monitor cable is in ok.
2. It comes up with "162 - System Options not set"
After a little while, it comes up with "CMOS Checksum invalid - default values loaded". Then it reboots and does the same.
I've tried turning the power off, moving the CMOS jumper for 30s and trying again. Nowt.
3. When I do plug it back in, it starts the PC up immediately, without the need to switch the on button on the PC, which is bizarre.
I've gotten into the BIOS setup and set the date, but there is no option to set a chip speed or anything.
I have a feeling that these are all related, but it's doin my head in.
Thanks as always in advance.
