Place an image of the DVD on your hard disk

Insert your PS2 DVD into your DVD-ROM drive. Load up RecordNow Max application.

http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/rnm1.jpg

Select your DVD-ROM drive from the available drive icons in the top left panel.
101 - Now either right-click the drive, select “Drive>Disc Explorer and Drive Properties” or press “F4” on your keyboard. This will bring up the Disc Explorer and Drive Properties screen.

http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/rnm2.jpg

(Note – tick the “Auto Refresh” box if you inserted you game after the application was loaded up, or if the game does not show in the “Disc Sessions and Tracks” area).
102 – Click on the “Global-Image” button.
103 – Enter the path/name of the file that will be the end image. Click the “…” box to browse to your chosen path. The image should end with a .gi extension.
104 – Select “Read Speed”, I always choose Min for speed.
105 – Click on the “Build” button.

http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/rnm3.jpg

The image will now be copied to your chosen area.
106 – The bottom of the window shows the overall and current Read Speed, along with percentage complete bar.

http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/rnm4.jpg

107 – When the image has been fully copied to your chosen area you will see a message confirming that the operation has been completed successfully.

Burn the image from hard disk back to a DVD-R

Before burning back to DVD-R, check the following settings:
* “Auto Insert Notification” is OFF
* “Autorun Shield” is ON (Tools>Options>General tab)
The bar along the bottom of the RecordNow Max application displays this information.

http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/rnm5.jpg

201 – Click on the “Image” button
202 – Select your DVD Recorder (eg. Pioneer A04/104)
203 – Select the number of “Copies”, the Burn Speed (1x or 2x depending on media), Select “Record and Verify” from the next drop-down box along, and finally “Verify every round”.
204 – Either locate the .gi image file from the drop-down box, or click on “Add file” then browse to your .gi image file.
205 – When you are happy with the settings, click on the red “Record” button.

http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/rnm6.jpg

206 – A confirmation screen will be displayed, either click on the “Record” button or leave for 5 seconds, the burn will then start.

http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/rnm7.jpg

207 – The progress bar displays remaining time and percentage completed. As you have selected “Record and Verify” in the settings above, the image will be recorded, then checked (Verify) against the original image.
The size of the original game along with the burn speed determines how long each phase will take. In the example above using World Championship Snooker 2002 burning at 1x, it took around 17 minutes to complete each phase (35 minutes in total). Larger TOC games such as Metal Gear Solid 2 take a much longer time to complete (between 45 and 60 minutes per phase).

Sit back and relax for a while, perhaps consuming a cold beverage or two.

http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/rnm8.jpg

208 – Congratulations, the overall burn process has been completed successfully.

I appreciate it but there is a much easier way to backup the disc with Recordnow Max than to go through all that. Simply open up Recordnow Max (making sure to close the wizard first) and click on the copy option. Put the PS2 original disc into the DVD-ROM drive and the CD-R or DVD-R in the recorder. Check the "write to HD" option and click the record button. RNM will take care of the rest. The burning speed is all up to you.

O yeh that's easy?? start dvddecrypter, go in the options and select it to eject after finished, now close it.
Copy and paste the below 6 lines into a .txt file, set your drive letters as needed, rename it to .bat.
Put dvddecrypter.exe in the same directory as the .bat, then create
a shortcut to the .bat on the "Quick Launch" bar.
Just double click the shortcut when you want to make a copy.
if you need it any easier than that, you are wearing a helmet.

@echo off
SET DVD=D:&:: or whatever your dvd letter is
SET HDD=E:&:: or whatever your HDD for storing the image is
DVDDECRYPTER.EXE /MODE ISOREAD /START /CLOSE /SRC %DVD% /DEST %HDD%\iMAGE.iSO
ECHO Press the space bar when the drive is ready to write.&PAUSE >nul
DVDDECRYPTER.EXE /MODE ISOWRITE /START /SRC %HDD%\iMAGE.iSO /DEST %DVD%

Nice .Bat but how do I configure it to setup my output file in a specific directory?

I prefer that Jesterrace (http://66.197.142.137/forums/member.php?u=6) method.

I just put the game in one writer, blank in another writer, select dvd copy & thats all I have to do.

Why not just read in ISO mode to the HD and then write in ISO mode back to DVD-R. Your process isn't that hard but all that technical lingo could be confusing for someone. Also Recordnow Max will burn CDs as well as DVDs. Anyways this is supposed to be a tutorial for recordnow max and not DVD Decrypter. ;)

O yeh that's easy?? Yes, it is easy. How hard do you think it is to click the copy button in RecordMax and insert the discs?

Granted your batch file will result in a simple one-click method, it would still need to be configured and setup first. Compared to your batch file, Jesterrace's method is alot easier and more intuitive for most people to configure.

"Why not just read in ISO mode to the HD and then write in ISO mode back to DVD-R." jest.

actually that is what it does...maybe im confused. image is stored to %hdd%\iMAGE.iSO Notice there is only 1 dvd variable. you dont need variables for such a tiny script, might aswell hardcode it in as literals...but i think the variables help explain it more maybe???

notice the isoread on one line, and isowrite in the other

@echo off
SET DVD=D:
SET HDD=E:
DVDDECRYPTER.EXE /MODE ISOREAD /START /CLOSE /SRC %DVD% /DEST %HDD%\iMAGE.iSO
ECHO Press the space bar when the drive is ready to write.
PAUSE >nul
DVDDECRYPTER.EXE /MODE ISOWRITE /START /SRC %HDD%\iMAGE.iSO /DEST %DVD%

or do you mean copy on the fly?? you can do that too if you wanted...that's just

DVDDECRYPTER.EXE /MODE ISOWRITE /START /SRC D: /DEST F:

although i have never burned on the fly

btw, i always try to use STANDARD formats for things such as ps2, remember there is no protection, so making a image in a proprietary image could come back to haunt you and can only make it more difficult for others. Not sure why people choose non-iso9660 imaging for images mastered in iso9660... it does not make any sense to me, and technically doesnt make any sense at all, but everybody likes their own thing...that's for sure.

anyways, why even bother to press more than 1 click to do such simple things?

There is also a program called autoshrinkiso that automatically writes your dvdshrink image with Decryptor.

Yeah, but the new DVD Shrink and the latest DVD Decrypter do that themselves. Anyways we are getting off topic here. The original post was about making PS2 backups with Recordnow Max.
