I've read that SA is gonna be dual layered. Which is expected since its supposedly gonna be jam-packed.

My question is that with my Jap PS2 with a no solder mod, will i be able to boot the original US version of the game?

Cause i've tried to boot an original AUS ps2 game previously with no success.

BTW i'm using a double swap method with an AR2 to boot DVD backups.

Thanks.

Ive seen double layer games I just backup the first layer & it works but I don't have the ps2 you do. The second layer has to come from the other sources.

How do you just backup the first layer? The only thing I know of is backing up a rip (removed movies ect) and then maybe finding the movies and backing them up onto a second disc.

Don't worry dual layers media coming out
soon, end of june or july. Even though the
media is around $13 a pop I say it's worth
it, rather then $50.

Yeah but i heard the dual layer media would be still a bit iffy cause its still new. And only the + dual layered stuff will be out by that time and it ain't the most compatible with the PS2.

Even so, i thought you couldn't boot up a dual layered dvd using a double swap because it will have a smaller TOC. I could be wrong though.

Or maybe, it won't be on dual layered. Bc there is no way to tell as of yet!

"How do you just backup the first layer?"

Same thing I did with Champions of Norath. Just put the game in & did a dvd copy, same as any other game. That plays fine until it gets to a layer switch about half way through the game.

Kinda takes all the fun out of playing the game doesn't it?

It said in Official PS2 Magazine. I forget whether it was the USA or UK mag. They had some exclusive on the game and the peps from Rockstar said it would be on dual layered.

But i guess we won't really know till it arrives.

I don't trust gaming magazines. I find them to be about as useful as movie critics.

Everybody was saying that GTA:VC was going to be dual layered, but we all know that it turned out to be a single layer DVD. Although, I would not be surprised if it was a DL DVD.

Good point guys. Guess we don't really know if its gonna be DL.

But i'm still curious, how do people with no solder mods play backup DL games like Xenosaga and Metal Gear Substance? Cause i've seen them on sale in the form of 2 single layered dvd's, but how do they play the second disc?
Are the environments on each disc totally independent of 1 another?

I heard Xenosaga had its cut scenes recoded or something so the game could fit onto 1 dvd. COuld that be done with MGS Substance or GTA SA?

Thanks guys.

xenosaga had the movies re-encoded so it fits on a dvd-r, mgs2 substance was ripped to fit 2 dvd-r's, one had the main game and the other disc was the vr missions, there was a tool posted on ps2ownz that you could use to make your own rip of mgs2 substance

handyguy, does that really work?

How are you able to copy ONLY one layer at a time? I thought in Champions of Norrath it was setup so that movies were on one layer and the game data was on the other? But like dual layered movies a computer just reads one large disc (ie 7 gigs of data)??

Are you sure you didn't have any problems playing the games, like missing movies, sounds? (besides the switch at the half way point of course)

And about the dual layered media, wouldn't we all need to get dual layered capable drives too? How much would that run?

Until you make a coaster or 2.

Hopefully HDDloader will support dvd9 by then...also isn't it gonna hit XBox simultaneously?

Yep, and it turned out so small in the end, people managed to fit both GTA3 and GTAVC (and True Crimes) onto one DVD without any rips for the Xbox version.

Hows that work out?
Does the GTA3 and GTA VC have dummy files or something cause there both like 4+ gigs.
