Hi peeps
I have ntl broadband through the set-top box which connects to my desktop pc - what do i need to do to add a connection to my mac upstairs.
Can i use a router??? And will they all be compatible with ntl??
Thanks

yep, for ease of use, just use a router. anything described as a cable router, rather than adsl will be compatible. ebuyer do a very cheap 3com for under £30 which will do fine.

Just jumped in as one of our customer said he changed from BT to NTL, but he does not have a modem, they simply supplied a cable to go from the wall socket direct to the PC, and the wall plug is much smaller than a normal RJ45, so the router and CAT5 cable we supplied doesnt fit into this new wall socket.
Has NTL changed their setup ?
Thanks for any info.

sounds wrong to me. looking on the ntlworld site, it still says about the two ways of connecting - either with a modem or by STB.
thinking logically, the UBR (ntl's version of an exchange in BT speak) has to physically download the conf file for the modem to understand what band of service the customer should get, e.g. 150,k 600k or 1mb, so can't see how it would work without a modem. Even the STB's just have a modem inside them, so think I would advise them to get on the phone to NTL.
and if anything had changed i'm sure theregister.co.uk would have picked up on it :)

Thanks T
Found the problem...
The user 'upgraded' from BT broadband to NTL dial-up in order to save 5 pounds a month, and he still think the broadband is there but using NTL instead, sure enough, he only has a normal phone socket, with a modem cable into the PC modem.
Cheers
