keep getting error messages & failure to start burns in nero/stomp & DVDDecrypter (reads from burner OK though, just wont burn).

could it be my discs all of a sudden or the burner??

just re-installed OS etc & same problem.

how can i find out if the burners buggered?????

I've got the same burner bub, and I'm getting error messages constantly using Alcohol 120%, RNM and CloneDVD all saying it's the media which is bullshit because I'm able to copy disc to disc but can't burn from images!

Using Ridata Riteks and have never had problems with their media...ever. Just finished a clean install of XP too and it's beyond frustrating. Cleaned the burner drive, yes. Still cannot burn from an image file and I have quite a few on my hdd so it's not an isolated case.

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks.

Have you checked the jumpers? Have you tried un-installing and re-installing the drivers? Approximately how many burns have you done on your drive?

Jumpers are fine, even re-installed the bloody drivers. Approx. 500 or so burns. :( I've also read a couple of people here having issues with Ridata Riteks last batch of dvd-r's so I'm going to pick up another brand and try that.

Thanks.

I keep getting Power Calibration errors when burning with Nero, tried lots of different discs, found that if I drop the speed to 2x then it works. Had enough gonna get a 108, don't like waiting 30 mins to burn a disc.
Anyone know if a dual layer burner is gonna come out that burns to DVD-R...?

Same problem! Everytime I try to burn at 4x I get a power calibration error. Burning at 2x works fine though.

Does the NEC have the firmware hack like Pioneer does so you can burn on 4x media at 8x though? Otherwise I'm getting a Pioneer 107 instead.

I'm not sure about burning 4x at 8x but I know you can flash it to burn dual layer dvdrs.

Merc, have you tried actually opening it and cleaning the laser with some alcohol?

And you can get the 2510a for $77 shipped, atleast I did from newegg.

Yep, I've already cleaned the drive thoroughly and it's still not doing schitt. Reads fine, just won't burn worth a damn. Going to get a 107 and see how that goes. Upgrades are good. :D

FORGOT ABOUT THIS THREAD I STARTED AGES AGO-lol

anyway, i saved the discs it "ruined" by the above error during burn.

re-formatted & installed with latest nero etc & everythings OK now.

Also managed to use the "ruined" discs aswell!!!!!!!

not sure what was going on though.

been told that pioneers have a life limited to how much theyre on (not just burning), so i only connect the power cable when i wanna burn (gonna make a switch i think).

had my 105 for nearly 2 years now .. mine started about month or 2 months ago and is realy annoying .. i never knew they had sucj a short life span..

mine burns everything without a problem.. BUT. what it does do is for 1. the dvd+rw i use to record of tv with the dvd recorder , it read the disks fine , then for some reason chose to not recognise them. then it started to be fussy with what speeds to burn at .. i use datawrite ritek yellow v2, never use to have problems not sure if its the disks or the writer has had its day .. its never been clkeaned tho oops lol ..

anyway..the center part of the disk on some 25box`s its a clear inner circle. on some its like a dusty grey... the clear ones i can burn at x2 but they dont seem to like x1 now ... the dusty grey circle ones wont burn at x2 but will burn at x1 which sucks lol..... but all disks work either way on friends 105 burner... first i thought it was my puter or motherboard or cables etc ,, but after seeing this well i guess i should start saving for the 108 ... unless a good clean does the trick
