this gm was working fine b4 i HAD to replace my laser and then i also got a duo chip(the only chip that would go in my v1 ps2 w/o a fight and is direct boot everything). there were several dvdrs(apple) that wouldnt work now so i replaced them w/ riteks. i now have all of them but this one working again. the thing is the ritek version says the playstation 2(it loads it) but then hangs on a black screen. its just clear black. ya know, after playstation 2 appears, it goes away and then just hangs therefore leaving the screen totally black. any suggestions?

Do the originals work? If so then it is entirely possible that your replacement laser is incredibly weak. No two lasers are exactly the same with what they read.

everything else works fine(originals-cd and dvd & cdr/dvdr backups). there was only like 10 dvdrs that wouldnt read out of all my gms. the laser is working great for everything else. the laser makes a sound and stops reading after playstation 2 comes up. i cleaned the disc and laser(w/ cd cleaner) also. i guess ill just have to bite bullet on this one..no big deal. i just dont see why this dvd5 backup of it isnt working.

Yeah, I think it is just that you got a laser that isn't as strong as the one you originally had in it. I did hear that there are different types of lasers that go in the PS2 and that certain types of lasers are better than others. You might want to check out PS2ownz as I believe there is some info on them over there.
