I have recently installed a New MOBO and Chip and when trying to install XP I get a few errors stating that certain files can't be copied. This is after the stage where the drive is formatted (NTFS). It may be that the H/D is faulty but I'm not sure.
Has anyone come across this problem before ?
Cheers

Are you using a copied cd or is the original damaged in any sort of way? Try another one if so.

Copy the whole contents of the CD over to a new directory on the HDD and then run the setup.exe from there, you will find that might work

Also a sign of bad memory, XP is very picky when it comes to memory.
Never tried the method Gooner suggested but it sounds viable.

You can try to install it over a network. Or you should try and check your ram. Here is some information on the network install:

I would run a drive fitness program for the drive manufacturer in question. I had a similar problem once and the drive coughed up an error code on the test. You might have a bad drive. Post back and keep us informed.

I know the CD is ok as its been used recently on a different PC. I've tried different Drives to install and still get the same. I also tried a new H/D today and got exactly the same results.
It may be the RAM (256 DDR 2100) although this has been used with a different mobo and it was ok then. This new board (Shuttle) supports DDR and SDRam so I can try some different sticks to see if that works.
Thanks for the help guys will keep you posted.

As mentioned by ^Dylan above, XP can be very picky about RAM. That might be worth exploring. Remove all but one stick of RAM.

Might also be youir cd reader, if all else fails. If it's a "back-up" disc burnt at higher speed, some readers have problems reading them. Mostly the sign of a picky burner, but you could try burning at a slower speed. Since it was used on a different pc recently, i'll assume its a back-up.

All sorted now thanks. The problem was due to one of the jumpers on the board not set correctly. I knew all the hardware and s/w was OK as its all been used before. After reading the M/B manual for the 100th time I double checked everything and found a jumper for the voltage selector for the RAM. Nice motherboard but a real pain to setup...
Thanks again for the help !!
