View Full Version : Tracing IP address??
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is possible to trace IP address to identify which companies are visiting your website. I am considering the use of http://***.onestat.com to identify a number of details about customers visiting my website and I was wondering if from the IP address they give me if it is possible to identify which companies are visiting my website. I am not sure if obtaining such information would violate any privacy laws etc
if anyone could advise me on this I would appreciate it
many thanks

You can find out their ISP and relative location. But no names/addresses.
how relative m8, would you be able to pin it down to a post code area, or would it be less specific than that?
Try http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm - it will narrow it down to the town - but it's not always accurate, e.g. I'm in Middlesbrough, but it tells me I'm in Stockton. Don't think it gets much more accurate than that.

Because it traces your gateway, which is relativly close to you.

The only way you can find out their precise info is to contact their ISP. And they won't even give it to you unless you have some legall stuff to back it up.
