Bought a new writer as my ao5 was playing up.
Just thought i'd try cleaning the lens before i bin it but dont know where to start.
Any advice or links appreciated.
Thanks.
im not sure but i think its cleaned with one of those standard cd lens cleaners that are like a CD but with bristles on the underneath ... or maybe a can of air

Got this info from someone else but haven't tried it myself. Might be worth a try if your gonna bin it anyway.
Obviously this will involve opening the unit up.
Get a cotton bud and put that in some isopropyl alcohol
then clean the lens in a circular motion but do this slow no pressure on it at all
then get another cotton bud and dry the lens in a circular motion.
Apparently Meth's will also do the trick. Hope this helps ya.

DO NOT GET A CD WITH THE BRUSH ON IT!!!!!!! Those scratch up your lens. Honestly the method listed by blobbyrob or canned air would be your two best bets. I would personally opt for the canned air option before going with the alcohol cleaning method though.

when mi pioneer 104 stopped working last time , I pulled it apart & accross the lens was was a hair.
It would record fine for a while & then just stop for no reason.
Look closely at the lens , is there dirt on it or obstruction?
Methyl spirit can remove more than you might want in some cases & a cd with little brushes........only if you want to buy a new drive in my opinion.
