y please

havent found a way of doing it yet although it seems it can be done according to playstation.com

its the settings i need !!!

i have a Windows XP Pro, i have 2 network connections one for my pc and one for the PS2, the PC has internet connection sharing enabled with the firewall off and the PS2 network connection has the IP of 192.168.0.1 but i need the settings for the subnet mask and default gateway ? ? ?

plus i also need to know which ports the PS2 uses ? so as i can enable them in my firewall !

thx very much for looking, if you can help me that would be great!!! there doesn't seem to be any concrete information on setting this up

your running ics but you have a firewall? sort of odd having a firewall without a router dont you think? (BTW iCS is that generic microsoft thing isnt it???)

get a router, surely you know the basics here. You know what iCS stands for to me in helping you? Im Clueless, Sorry!

get a cheap router for 20usd and a switch for 10. if you cant afford 30usd, i suggest reading the manual or looking on google.

final words, get a router and we all can help you with that. (btw i run a old 133mhz with 2nic's, cost me 15usd and at 133mhz/32mb of ram its a hell of a router (way better than what you will get at your local store atleast)

Jackalman, Try these settings on your PS2:

IP Address 192.168.0.2
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.0.1

There are numerous instructions on setting up ICS at the following site.
http://au.playstation.com/ng/index3.jhtml

Microsoft's website also has a detailed document on setting up ICS. Remember, for your purposes, your PS2 would be treated as the Client computer referred to in the MS instructions.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306126

You are using a crossover cable between the PS2 and the PC, right?

neverMindNames (http://www.dvdrom-guide.com/forums/member.php?u=37)'s information is practically useless. There is nothing odd about using a firewall without a router and someone who doesn't know what ICS is shouldn't give advice about it. Plus most hardware routers have a switch built in so why he suggest getting them separatly is beyond me. As he admits, he's clueless. Given his bad grammer and semi-useless advice I was almost tempted to say he was just fonty/Lindsey using another alias.

i wasnt giving detailed advice, i was suggesting a better way of doing it (imo).

about the firewall, well yeh if you dont have a router you defiantely need all you can get right. but if your worried enough about security to run a firewall then you should have a router. its a gray issue and is different to anybody.

ics i looked into alittle bit a few hours after i posted, doesnt seem like a bad approach however im paranoid, i wouldnt use it. also it looks like it costs the same as ~30usd. not trying to stir waters, just suggesting another approach.

anyways if you want to run a little pc for a router its really cheap. any thrift store has them very cheap (if you live around one). ive been running 133mhz's with 16/32mb ram for years now on *bsd and linux and i couldnt imagine it getting any better in a non-prosumer market. alot of your middle to higher end cisco's that cost a few thousand usd only have 16/32ram and a 33mhz cpu (but the cpu is a tweaked out motorola...but its still only 33mhz, which when you add in the extra 100mhz you got a REALLY nice router (wont support some of the propietary protocols though, but you probably dont run those anyways. but you would be suprised at what free *nix does support)).

jackalman hopefully you get a router and a switch. crossover's will work, but having a more basic Lan running router/switch is defiantely knowledge you either want to know, or in the future will most likely have to know, so why not start now?

Coyote linux is a good lrp for not knowing anything at all and just starting out i guess. all you know need is the modules.o for your specific nic's and 2 pci slots in any computer. i use realtek cards because realtek is real cheap and really popular (but on free/openbsd)...cant go wrong.
