Depends what media you plan on using. If you are a Ritek user then I strongly suggest spending the extra $20 or so and getting the Pioneer 107. The 2500A seems to have some issues with Riteks.

Yeah Princo and most others seem to work fine. If you are doing trading then definitely spend the extra money for the Pioneer. You don't want to be dealing with complaints because the media doesn't work. Anyways, not all 2500A units have this problem but they certainly have higher rates of failure with Ritek than most drives.

maybe your right. jsut spend that little extra cash for a better one. I just can't help it because NEc is so cheap. Just wanted to make sure if it good. going to get Model# DVR-107D
my computer spec is
1.7ghz P4
256 pc133
would it work fine?

I thought most issues were now sorted out with NEC's new firmware upgrade?
Should be OK now with that.

I would recommend plextor 4X which I use. the 2500 burns them at 8X and that`s kind of neat, me thinks! Other than that I'm more than happy with my 2500, and are happy to recommend.

would it work fine?I don't actually have a 107 model but the reports on it are outstanding and I do own a Pioneer 105 and it has worked great for me. @bono I would buy an NEC before buying a Plextor. Plextor's quality has taken a dive as of late and you just can't justify the additional cost for the lack of features. The Plextor only burns at 8x to DVD+R and 4x to DVD-R while the NEC and Pioneer both burn at 8x on both formats and both have the option to upgrade the firmware so you can burn 4x DVD-R media at 8x. So the drives are cheaper and with the firmware upgrade it ends up saving you quite a bit on media.

You can also upgrade the firmware on the 2500 to burn dual layer discs when they come out
Jesterrace

Yes but it should be noted that dual-layered discs currently only work on the drives that burn them. You might want to keep that in mind before re-flashing your firmware and wasting tons of money on dual-layered discs. Now is not the time to buy into this format folks (media or otherwise).

That's just a rumor.
My how prices drop. The Sony 8x is now about $87 from buy.com, free shipping , no tax in Calif after 10% coupon & $30 rebate, it just came out in march at retail price of $220.00
