Hello.

I've been having problems with Windows Media Player (11 I think). Following some advice on another site, I tried uninstalling it (by unticking it in the Windows Features window), restarting Windows 7, then reinstalling it (again, in the Windows Features box) but it wont reinstall. I get a warning saying "An error has occured, not all features were successfully changed." then it needs to restart. After restart, no Windows Media Player, and the box is still unticked in Windows Features.

Now, i've found a way to get it working temporarily. I tried the Windows Media Player Fixit script from Microsoft, which couldn't find a Media Player installed. However, when I tick the media player box in Windows Features, and get the warning about not everything installing properly, if I don't restart Windows, I can run the Fixit and it repairs and resets the Media Player and it runs fine.

The problem is, when I restart Windows, it still wants to make changes after the attempted reinstall. What I need to do is stop Windows making changes when I restart. When I restart, it says it's Configuring Update, like when Windows makes a normal update. Also, this only works if I reinstall Media Center as well, and that disappears after restarting too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you've not installed Windows 7 SP1 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/gg635126.aspx), it's recommended to download and install it. I hope it will also repair the problem.

I installed SP1, but still having the same problem.

Also, i've noticed that the Fixit script isn't actually repairing Windows Media Player, all it did was restore it as the default playback tool before. I've noticed since that, when I reinstall WMP and Media Center, they ARE back and available when I right click a video and choose >Open With. They just vanish again after the restart. I noticed this before the SP1 update, if that matters.

You'll need to run a Windows Repair Install. Reinstall Windows 7 but select the Repair Windows option. You'll need to re-install the Windows updates such as SP1 after that.

Couldn't find a repair option on the windows 7 disc. There were only options to repair the startup etc. I tried that, but it couldn't find a problem. So i'm afraid I bottled it again and did a full windows reinstall. Ive been meaning to replace my system drive at some point anyway, since it was full.

Sorry I couldn't solve my initial problem. If it helps, I've now got days of solving new reinstall windows problems and getting all my programs back on there.

Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.
