hi,
im currently downloading from an ftp and im suppose to be maxing out a 1mb connection. as of now im downloading at 83k max. shouldnt i be at about 120k?
all help appreciated.

8bits per Byte so 100/8 would be 12.5mB/s. You would need at least 100mb yourself to max it out though.

Yes you should be able to get 120k but a download is only as fast as the slowest link.

I get about 65-70 on a 600k connection

thanks for the input and sorry about the confusion. i meant 1mb connection and not 100mb.

If your downloading from a private ftp (you have paid for subscription) and were told that speed will be maxed, then you are getting conned. On a 1mb you SHOULD max 120kbps or at least be around that mark.
Otherwise if its another ftp, then it might be becuase of the number of users.
