I am fiddleing with an old dedsktop pc that is in a shutdown and restart loop. I need to rewrite the boot sector.
I am using an xp disc to get into the repair console, but I get a request for the hdd password, .....
I dont know it, is there any thing I can do about this?

I presume you mean the Windows admin password ?? If so, the default is blank so just hit enter when it asks. If that doesn't work, then someone set a password when Windows was installed. You can try recovery programs, etc. but the easiest way would probably be to just reinstall Windows. You won't lose your documents, etc if you reinstall w/o formatting.

The pc is a independent retailer setup. It also has a recovery image on it but I cant find how to access it.
It is now asking for a admin password.
