I am unable to load at all. When I use my action replay and I put it in the screen just goes black. I also tried DVD's that work in my dvd player but wont play on my ps2. Is it time for a new ps2?

Lots of posts on how Memorex is "iffy" media. People need to realize that name brands don't mean a thing. Like almost all other store brands, Memorex outsources to other companies to produce dyes for their discs. So you are never getting a Memorex disc. Generally speaking with Memorex DVD-R you are getting the CMC Mag dye which as mentioned above is hit and miss (works great for somethings but not others). Ritek or Taiyo Yuden would be my recommendation. Taiyo Yuden can be spendy but they are absolute top notch for compatbility. Ritek is also pretty good but costs about half as much. Taiyo Yuden and Ritek actually manufacter thier own dyes so you never have to worry about which dye you are getting from batch to batch. Anyways, I would definitely get a small pack of different DVD-R media before replacing your laser. If you are dead set on not ordering online (I really recommend ordering online since you will almost always get a better deal), then try Fujifilm DVD-R or TDK DVD-R. Both of these generally carry the Ritek or Taiyo Yuden dyes. If you are located in the US, I suggest checking out the two following links for great deals on both Ritek and Taiyo Yuden discs. I have personally ordered from both of these sites and can vouch for both of them. Fast shipping and good service.
