Got the above printer for my mother in law but it has played up more or less since she got it.
Only managed maybe 12 prints before the black ink head needed cleaning, after one clean it said the black ink was empty. Got some compatible carts and used a whole cartridge trying to get the black head clean. Changed to a different compatible brand and still the same issue after using half the cartridge to try and clean the print heads. Even after all these cleans it is exactly the same area of the test print that need cleaning everytime.
Is it worth buying an original black cart to see if that helps or does it look more like a hardware problem. Still got half full original colour cartridges, and the printer won't accept multiple manufacturer cartridges so can't mix em up.
Printer is still in warranty so could return it to Tesco for replacement if needed.

If it's under warranty, dont mess about .... just get a refund or an exchange.

Epsons are notorious for getting clogged up and need to be used regularly to prevent drying out.

Took it to the local service centre today and they found no problems with the printer, test print was perfect.
Do the latest Epson printers have problems with compatible cartridges?
I've tried two different compatible brands now and both exactly the same, I'm assuming the service centre used Epson inks.
I'll have to buy an Epson black to test but don't really want to use official inks all the time as they cost loads, luckily though it isn't my printer.

UPDATE: Bought Epson official ink and still same problem, will take back to shop tomorrow and see what they say.

Well I have an SX115 and use these el cheapo compats from 7dayshop:- http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_2&products_id=108672

They work out @ under 90p each if you buy them in 10 packs and I've not had any problems at all ..... as of yet. Might be worth a try. :)

Took it back to the shop again today and they confirmed it has an issue with the print head, have arranged for a courier to pick this one up and replace with a new one at the same time.
Apparently the heads had become unblocked while it wasn't being used, hence why it worked for them on Saturday the first time they tried it, but once ink started to go through more regular it blocked up. Not sure if they're telling the truth but they seemed a great set of lads and my mother in law is now getting a new printer so she'll be happy.
